Gas Fireplace Maintenance & Cleaning in Cornwall, Ontario
SDG Duct Cleaning provides gas fireplace maintenance and cleaning in Cornwall, Ontario, SDG and surrounding Eastern Ontario communities.
We're HVAC and gas technicians—not simply cleaners. Our fireplace maintenance includes cleaning the fireplace, inspecting the main operating components and testing the system to make sure it's operating properly when we're finished.
Whether you use your gas fireplace regularly throughout the winter or only occasionally, periodic maintenance gives us an opportunity to clean the equipment and identify worn or damaged components before they become a larger problem.
What Is Included in Gas Fireplace Maintenance?
Our exact process can vary depending on the make and model, but a typical maintenance includes:
- Initial operation and inspection
- Removal of the glass and necessary components
- Cleaning inside the firebox
- Cleaning and inspection of the burner
- Cleaning and inspection of the pilot assembly
- Inspection of the thermocouple and thermopile, where equipped
- Cleaning the fireplace glass
- Inspection of the glass gasket
- Checking proper log placement
- Inspection and cleaning of the blower, where accessible
- Visual inspection of accessible venting
- Reassembly and final operational test
Our Gas Fireplace Cleaning Process
1. Initial Inspection
We start by operating the fireplace when appropriate and looking at the ignition, pilot, burner flame, controls and blower.
This gives us a baseline before we take the fireplace apart.
2. Open & Clean the Fireplace
Once the fireplace is safely shut down, we remove the glass and necessary components.
Dust and debris are cleaned from the accessible areas inside the firebox. The burner and pilot assembly are inspected and cleaned as required.
3. Inspect the Fireplace Components
While the fireplace is open, we inspect accessible components including the pilot, thermocouple, thermopile, burner, gas valve, wiring, glass gasket and blower where equipped.
We're looking for obvious wear, deterioration or conditions that may require further repair.
4. Clean the Fireplace Glass
The inside of gas fireplace glass commonly develops a cloudy or white film.
We clean the glass using an appropriate fireplace-glass cleaner and inspect the glass and gasket before reinstalling it.
5. Reinstall the Logs
Gas fireplace logs need to be installed in their proper positions.
After cleaning, the logs and decorative media are returned to their appropriate locations before the fireplace is closed.
6. Reassemble & Test
Finally, we reassemble and operate the fireplace.
We check ignition, pilot operation, burner operation, flame appearance, controls and blower operation where equipped.
If we find a problem that requires repair, we'll explain what we found.
Common Gas Fireplace Problems
Maintenance can sometimes uncover problems before the fireplace completely stops working.
Common issues include:
- Pilot won't stay lit
- Main burner won't ignite
- Weak thermocouple or thermopile
- Dirty pilot or burner
- Fireplace keeps shutting off
- Noisy or non-working blower
- Damaged glass gasket
- Improper log placement
- Ignition problems
If your fireplace already has one of these problems, let us know when booking. You may need a fireplace diagnostic and repair call rather than routine maintenance.
