Air Duct Sanitization & Fogging
Professional Benefect® Duct Treatment in Cornwall & SDG
At SDG Duct Cleaning, we don't believe duct sanitization should replace proper duct cleaning.
The first step is always to physically remove the dust, dirt and debris from your duct system. Once the ductwork has been professionally cleaned, we can apply Benefect® Botanical Disinfectant using professional fogging equipment as an additional treatment.
The fogging process creates a fine mist that is introduced into the duct system following the cleaning.
Clean first. Treat second.
What Is Air Duct Sanitization & Fogging?
Air duct sanitization is an additional treatment that can be performed after your ductwork has been professionally cleaned.
Once the physical cleaning is complete, we use professional fogging equipment to introduce a fine mist of Benefect Botanical Disinfectant into the duct system.
Fogging allows the product to be dispersed through the ductwork rather than simply spraying a product into individual registers.
At SDG Duct Cleaning, we perform the physical duct cleaning first and the Benefect fogging treatment afterwards.
Why We Use Benefect®
We chose Benefect Botanical Disinfectant because we wanted a product that fit the way we approach duct cleaning.
Benefect is a Health Canada-registered botanical disinfectant (DIN 02242474). According to Benefect, Botanical Disinfectant contains no synthetic fragrances, dyes or bleach.
Benefect also requires no mixing and is designed as a ready-to-use product.
Benefect Botanical Disinfectant
- Botanical formula
- No bleach
- No synthetic fragrances
- No dyes
- Ready to use
- Health Canada registered
Rather than simply choosing a strongly scented chemical and spraying it into your ductwork, we wanted a professional product specifically used in restoration and remediation applications.
Our Duct Sanitization Process
1. Professional Duct Cleaning
We begin by cleaning the duct system using our normal professional duct-cleaning process.
Our equipment places the duct system under negative pressure while compressed-air tools and agitation equipment are used to loosen and remove accumulated material.
We clean both the supply and return sides of the system, along with accessible main trunk lines.
2. Removing Dust & Debris
Dust, pet hair, construction debris and other accumulated material should be physically removed before applying a treatment.
Simply fogging dirty ductwork is not a substitute for duct cleaning.
3. Benefect Fogging
Once the duct-cleaning process is complete, we prepare the system for the Benefect treatment.
Professional fogging equipment turns the product into a fine mist that can be introduced into the duct system.
4. Final Treatment
The Benefect application becomes the final step of the service.
The result is a professional duct-cleaning service followed by an additional botanical treatment rather than simply spraying a product over dirty ductwork.
Why Do We Fog After Cleaning?
Think about washing something in your home.
Normally, you remove the dirt first before applying a finishing treatment. We take the same approach with your ductwork.
If the ducts contain years of accumulated dust and debris, we don't believe simply fogging over that material is the proper way to do the job.
That's why our process is:
CLEAN → REMOVE → FOG
The duct cleaning removes the accumulated material.
The Benefect fogging is performed afterwards as an additional treatment.
When Should You Consider Duct Sanitization?
There are several situations where homeowners may want to consider adding Benefect fogging after their duct cleaning.
After Renovations
Renovations can create a surprising amount of drywall dust, sawdust and other construction debris.
Even after changing your furnace filter, material that has already entered the ductwork can remain there.
Professional duct cleaning removes that accumulated material, with Benefect fogging available as an additional final treatment.
Moving Into a Home
When purchasing an existing home, you may have very little information about the history of the duct system.
Having the ducts professionally cleaned gives you an opportunity to remove accumulated material left behind by previous occupants and start fresh.
Benefect fogging can be added after the cleaning.
After a Long Period Without Duct Cleaning
If your ductwork hasn't been cleaned for many years, there may be a significant accumulation of dust and debris inside the system.
We remove that material first before performing any fogging treatment.
Is Benefect Safe?
Benefect Botanical Disinfectant is registered with Health Canada and uses botanical ingredients.
According to Benefect, the product contains no synthetic fragrances, dyes or bleach and does not require mixing before use.
We apply the product according to the manufacturer's directions.
Does Fogging Disinfect My Entire Duct System?
This is an important distinction.
Benefect Botanical Disinfectant itself has registered disinfectant claims for approved applications. However, Benefect explains that Health Canada does not permit a disinfection claim for an entire air-duct system because complete cleaning, product coverage and contact time cannot be verified throughout every hidden portion of the ductwork.
For that reason, SDG Duct Cleaning does not promise that fogging has “disinfected every inch” of your HVAC system.
We would rather explain exactly what we're doing than make a claim we can't verify.
Duct Cleaning vs. Duct Fogging
Duct cleaning physically removes accumulated material from the HVAC system.
This can include:
- Dust
- Dirt
- Pet hair
- Construction debris
- Other material accumulated in the ductwork
Duct fogging is an additional treatment performed after that cleaning has been completed.
The two services work differently, which is why we don't consider fogging a replacement for professional duct cleaning.
Performed by HVAC Technicians
At SDG Duct Cleaning, we're HVAC technicians—not just duct cleaners.
We understand how your furnace, blower motor, evaporator coil, supply ductwork, return ductwork, filtration and airflow all work together.
That HVAC experience is also why we take a straightforward approach to duct sanitization.
We clean the system properly first.
Then, if Benefect fogging is being performed, it is done as the final treatment.
